Description
Survivor of Nazi Germany’s prisoner of war concentration camps, Morris Gutzman is slowly starving to death as are many of his Jewish compatriots. It is almost a welcome situation when a German soldier levels his rifle at Morris and prepares to fire. Defenseless, Morris can only hope that death will be quick and painless. After the sound of a rifle firing, much to his surprise, when he opens his eyes, he finds himself alive and staring at an American soldier who had shot the German just in time. Begging for food, Morris is so weak all he can do is whimper. The American gives Morris a life-saving candy bar and moves on. Morris does not forget. Finally immigrating to America, Morris searches until he finds his benefactor, Wilson Henry Yakameya, known to his Mohawk mother and his Native-American tribe as “The Raven.” Unfortunately, Morris finds Yak, as he is known by his fellow army soldiers, as he nears death’s door. But it is never too late.
