The Second-Best Christmas

Author: Rebecca Platt
SKU: 9781005071462

This is not your usual Christmas story because most people don’t live in a Hallmark world. But this is a book of hope and redemption as seen in the lives of newlyweds Jack and Allie. Alert: The book begins with an assault scene, but it is very nondescript. God’s hand is seen throughout the story as he works despite the circumstances. This is a novella. You can read it in a couple of hours.

Description

Jack and Allie are newlyweds who, at one point, never thought they’d make it to the altar. Neither did their friends. It is a story of hope and redemption as the author weaves faith into their courtship and marriage, displaying God’s hands. It is also the story of Ruth and Gus and a recluse called Evelyn. Eveyln’s story and a mysterious note start a chain of events that affects all of their lives. The novella (a very short book you can read in a couple of hours) begins with an assault theme that the reader will not find objectionable as it is vaguely described. Not everyone leads a Hallmark life, so this is not a Hallmark Christmas story, but it is funny and warm, and God’s character is revealed throughout the book. Christians struggle with the same life issues that everyone else does. However, we have a God who understands, walks with us through it, and gives us strength. This book will brighten your day as you read about Allie and Jack. It is their first Christmas, and they want to make it their best first Christmas. (You’ll have to read the book to understand the title.) They soon realize they will need extra income if they are going to accomplish buying each other something really special. They take on one extra night of work, but that isn’t quite enough. They both independently meet Gus, the owner of a thrift shop called “Off the Beaten Path.” They each end up working a night at the store, unbeknownst to the other one. The story reaches its climax shortly after Christmas when Gus decides to offer one of them a permanent position. A lot happens at the end of the book, and you will learn how God has been leading Jack and Allie right along to the conclusion.

About Rebecca Platt

Hi there,I have a degree in Psychology and postgraduate courses in Clinical Pastoral Education. I worked as a hospital chaplain and taught Bible classes for years. I have just been accredited as a Happiness Life Coach as well and continue to take coaching classes. All of this led me to where I am now, an author and blogger.I write primarily about mental health and faith issues. Christians struggle with these illnesses as much as anyone but we have a heavenly father who equips us to fight these battles. Having struggled with depression, I have now been depression-free for many years. What I learned on that journey ended up being the material for my first book, Depression Has A Big Voice. Make Yours Bigger! My own experience and the experiences of those I counseled as well as a lot of research and Bible study, contributed to the writing of the book. It is a 60-day devotional, and a self-help book all rolled into one. So far, everyone who has read it has said it helped them greatly. Give it a read. Also, my second book, Finding Your More, is now published as well. This book discusses how we find God’s will and purpose for our lives. But I use the word ‘more’ because I think that’s what it really is-more. We find more of everything when we are living the life God has planned for each of us. Each of us has a specific purpose for a specific time in our lives. This book studies the lives of certain people in the Bible and how they found their more. The second half outlines the simple steps you can take to find your personal ‘more’.You will be blessed by both books. Announcement! A soon-to-be-released Christmas book is currently under editing and will be available soon. It’s not a Hallmark story because who, really, lives a Hallmark life? It is an honest book and delightful and wonderfully refreshing. Hope you will read it.Visit me at goodthoughtsgoodlives.com for posts you will find uplifting and encouraging. Anyway, that’s enough about me. I would love to hear from you as well. What do you struggle with the most? What is your faith journey like? Do you have doubts sometimes? To be honest, I do. But aren’t we glad God doesn’t chastise us when we have questions?I hope your day is wonderful and that you sense God’s presence in your life.Blessings,Rebecca
