It’s the year 1652 and Hendrik Leerdam and his family have arrived in the Cape. Lions roam the streets, leopards hide in the trees and survival for Hendrik, Jack and the temperamental friesian Runnik has become an adventure. They face viscous winter storms, hippo’s, tick fever and a cunning mountain lion as they settle into their new home at the southern tip of Africa. This adventure spans over several years and includes more than 600 full-color illustrations and 12000 words to help 6-12 year old’s read, learn and above all, enjoy animated fiction.

James & PeterIn 2012 we embarked on a fanciful journey; to portray South Africa’s history in cartoon format. There’s so much to tell- Dutch arrival in the Cape of Storms, the indigenous people that frequented the shores, an untamed land, British occupation, the Xhosa, Zulu and Suthu people, exploration of the land that lies beyond the mountains, the discovery of diamonds and gold and a war with the mightiest nation on earth. It’s a great story, a story filled with danger and adventure, a story told by an Afrikaner with an English name and the son of a German Missionary to the Tswana people. A tale of laughter, fun, sadness and exhaustion; of colleagues that became friends, united by a relevant and beautiful story.
